wtf
getting your hair cut is always somewhat of a risky activity, and usually i've been pretty lucky with them. i tend to leave the hair salon feeling pretty good about the new hairdo. well... i guess i ran out of luck last night.

my hair was getting way too long, so i decided to go get it cut after work yesterday. there is a place called 'Dramatics' right next to where i live; they offer pretty cheap rates for their haircuts compared to the rest of NYC (starting at $35 for long hair). well, needless to say, i am not happy with my haircut. firstly, it's a lot shorter than i wanted it. secondly, i told her i wanted two layers (instead of the three i already had), but now it looks like... there are NO layers?! thirdly, when i pull my hair to the front i can distinctly tell that both sides are not of the same exact length because one side hangs a little lower than the other. $#@$#@!

wtf, indeed. i can't stop thinking about how much i hate the way my hair looks like right now. i miss my longer hair. i miss my beautiful layers. the ONLY thing that looks good with this new haircut is the way she cut my side-angled bangs. but i can't stop thinking about how the rest of it is such a mess. i can't even focus on work because this is bugging me so much! i have to get it fixed. there's a hair salon in our office building... maybe i'll go to it after work and just get them to put in another layer, and fix the ends so they are at the same freakin' length.

it sucks i have to spend more money now fixing the mistakes of a new haircut. also, i wanted to look good this weekend for my trip to CT, and now my hair is all messed up. boo. :(

Oh no, poor you! I never seem to have much luck with hairdressers, they either don't get it or end up doing next to nothing to the point where you don't even see I had a haircut?! I've done a lot of cutting myself for that reason. I hope you can make yours work.

Ouch! I feel your pain... my hair dresser left and the salon I've ben going to for years is closing down! :( So I risked it with the hairdresser there and she didn't do a very good job. :/

All I can say is, this can be very traumatic and go see another hair dresser... preferably one a friend can recommend and can go with you to see! <3

the problem is everything is so EXPENSIVE here in new york city. ah, i'll see what i can do.

maybe i should just suck it up, grow it out, and then go get a hair cut later when i need one. :\

Oh man... bad haircuts are the worst. :( I'm sorry you ended up with one. Ask friends, acquaintances and coworkers if they can recommend somewhere - at least you can see proof of the hairdresser's work. :D

i'll try... this is the problem with NYC - too many choices and recommendations! you never know which one will go wrong.

I would complain to the manager, or person in charge. They should fix your hair cut free of charge.

i was thinking about that, but she really didn't do a good job the first time around... what's the guarantee she will do a better one when i complain and have her fix it, you know?

haircuts are a horror for me. i think i scare the hairdressers too. before they start cutting i give them the RULES. lol sometimes, they start as i'm talking and i stop them... and say, no listen 1st. i even do it to people i have been using for awhile. i'm horrible.

go back, and demand extensions. i did that once, got em =]

haha, it's best to tell them to shut up and make them listen to EXACTLY what you want, isn't it? most hairdressers never listen. ugh.

I have a wonderful guy, his name is Roger and he's at Shape Salon (which is on 34th and Park Avenue So - 6 train to 33rd St). Their number is 212.779.2465. Never ever go into a Dramatics again or that other chain whose name escapes mebut they also do cheap cuts (just remembered Super Cuts!). The Aveda place in the Village also has great services (but there is a wait since it's students with lots of supervision).

What about the place you went to months ago? Sometimes it's worth the extra expense just to make sure you get it done right and exactly to your specifications.

ooh, thanks for the Shape Salon suggestion! i'll go check it out sometime. i actually live VERY close to that (i'm on 36th street) so i would just have to walk like a few blocks there. it's perfect. is it expensive though?

waittt, how did you know about the super expensive haircut i had months ago?? were you in my LJ friends list then?? :) i didn't think so? haha. but you're so right... it's better to pay more and get more value out of it, then scrimp and pay less and get a shittier job done.

Yes I was under my old journal and remembered how much you loved it.

Depends on how much you get done and what you consider pricey... I usually get my highlights done, a trim and a blow dry for $200.

i actually did! i went to a hair salon in my office building and she did a pretty good job fixing up the other lady's mistakes. :)

I was also going to suggest you go back and bitch but you're right...do you really want that lady going at your hair with scissors again? Perhaps if you still went back and had someone else there fix it?

i just figured that might be really rude to do that? i dunno. plus no one had anything good to say about that hair salon, so i doubt i will EVER go back! hah.

whatever you do, DON'T make the mistake i made last week and try to cut it/fix it yourself. my head looks so lopsided and BAD right now...i have to go and pay someone to drastically fix it. it's sad.

go back and complain. don't let her touch your hair again, but let her know you aren't satisfied. that's what i'd do.

i was tempted to try and fix it myself, but i knew that would only end in a bigger disaster, so i didn't DARE. lol.

You know, the best luck I've had with my hair has been Tiffany at Hair Farfala on 3rd between 88th and 89th, next to the Dominos and that new Sushi place.....go in and ask for Tiffany. She's like THE BEST. But if you request her you won't get the introductry price but she's totally worth it.

ah, that location would have been good for me if i still lived in the Upper East... but i'm trying to find something close to where i am right now. thanks for the suggestion though! it's always good to go by word-of-mouth for these things.
