here's a quick recap before i launch into my disgusting story of the day: after divya and i moved into this apt, we had quite a few problems with pests. of course, there was the infamous mouse which i had mentioned in an entry before. (he, by the way, made a few appearances in recent days until ricardo found a hole in our living room closet - coincidentally the mouse's favorite 'hiding place' - and sealed it!) i also had some very unwelcome, unsightly visitors in my attached bathroom ever since i moved in... ROACHES. yes. they are beyond doubt the most disgusting creatures, ever. i was so beyond mortified when i saw them in my room/bathroom. *shudder* anyway, so we complained to ricardo about all of this, and he immediately brought in the exterminator. that guy came about a week and a half ago. he sprayed all these things, sealed up cracks and holes, etc, etc. the next couple of days i found quite a few dead roaches in my shower. since then i hadn't seen a roach in my bathroom or room or anywhere in the apt, so i was at ease, thinking the extermination did its job. little did i know...

so, this morning i got a nasty lil surprise. (i'm cringing as i'm writing this, because even thinking about it is making me queasy inside!) i have this pretty bright orange silky drape over my bed. as in, it is directly over my head as i am sleeping in bed. it drapes over both sides of my bed, but it doesn't cover the whole bed. the drape's width as it hangs from the ceiling over my head will only go as far as maybe the midsection of my stomach. they are not very long, so they don't even touch the floor. the way i have them pinned up, they are sort of hugging the walls on either side. ANYWAY.

i woke up at like 6 because the right side of my mouth was hurting (my wisdom tooth is pushing out on the bottom and it's not a pleasant feeling). i was rolling around in bed for a little, and then fell back asleep. my alarm went off at 7:20, and i snoozed till about 7:35. i finally decided it was time to get up. so i reached over and turned on the lamp next to my bed, then put my head back down for a second... and looked up... AND THEN FREAKED THE FUCK OUT BECAUSE THERE WAS A ROACH ON MY ORANGE DRAPE! RIGHT ON TOP OF MY HEAD! oh my god, it was so fuckin disgusting! and scary! and ugly! seeing its fat dark shape contrasted on my bright orange drape was probably the most startling and heartstopping image, especially since it was clinging to it right over my head! i immediately jumped out of bed, and then had to figure out a way to get it off my drape and somehow kill it, without having it land on my bed. right. NOT an easy task as i later found out when i brought out our Swiffer broom/mop to kill it with...

but to make a long story short, i somehow killed it. it took awhile though. i even had to squish it a couple of times with my gym sneakers before it commpletely died. the damn thing was HUGE, almost 2 inches long! ew, ew, ew!

and now, all i can think about at work is how the fuck it got UP there on my drapes to begin with... i've seen roaches on the floor, but i've never seen them on WALLS! but i guess i was pretty ignorant about them, because after doing a whole bunch of research this morning, i found out a lot of things: the roaches i've been seeing in my room/bathroom are sometimes called 'water bugs' because these 'oriental roaches' are mainly found in damp areas, bathrooms, near areas where water-pipes are situated, basements (bingo!), etc; they can pretty much walk on ANY surface, even up walls (wtf?!) and upside-down on ceilings (oh my fuckin god?!), and they are known to reproduce pretty quickly.

that's it. i'm moving out.

seriously though, i've NEVER lived in an apt that had a roach problem... and i am beyond uncomfortable with these surprise visits. i will have to talk to ricardo again today and tell him to bring that damn exterminator back. i'm hoping the one i killed today was just a stray one that somehow escaped the extermination from before, but let's face it, that's just me lying to make myself feel better about this whole thing. chances are there are more of them crawling around, somewhere, and they need to get wiped out, now.

EWWWWWWWWWWWW! :(

- i'm losing so much hair, and i don't know why. it's really starting to worry me because the hair loss is visible near my hairline. noooo! i'm trying not to straighten my hair as often. hope that helps.. do you guys know of anything i can do to enhance hair growth, or not lose as much hair?? :\

- guess who i saw last night? or rather, WHAT i saw last night! my dear lil mouse friend. yup. he's still around. i don't know how he escaped the first time, but grrrr. i'm not as scared now because i know he's basically harmless. but still, who wants that as a pet running around inside their apt?! NOT ME. ricardo has set some traps around so hopefully he'll get caught. though i don't know how i will dispose of him when he IS caught - i will just have to let ricardo take care of that too. ew.

- i really need to get cracking on the GREs. i'm taking them in less than a month and my studying has been sporadic at best. not good.

- divya will be here this saturday. (for sure this time, haha). wheeee!

- i know my userpic is so wrong for the winter but it barely feels like winter with this crazy ass weather! it did get a lot colder today, but the weekend felt like we just skipped winter and went right to spring. this is outta control. makes me nervous.

- i should stop wasting time. back to work.

i had a little episode in my room last night. i was sitting on my bed with my laptop, playing The Sims (i've had an unhealthy addiction with it ever since i first discovered the game years ago), being bored and not wanting to study for the GREs or do anything else halfway productive... when, out of the corner of my eye, i thought i saw something move at the end of the room! keep in mind i am always a little edgy when inside that apt because a.) i'm all by myself for now, and b.) it's a semi-basement apt, and i keep hearing funny sounds from the rest of the building. i don't get freaked out too easily, but i'm usually just a little uneasy when being in there by myself.

so ANYWAY, i looked over at the other end of the room... and didn't see anything. there is not much all the way on the other side since i haven't really arranged most of the furniture in my room (except for my bed and dresser), so the only thing over there is a chair with some of my clothes hanging on it, and this big black speaker on the ground. this big (i must add, probably broken) speaker was in the room when i moved in for whatever reason, and i just started using it as a 'table' for my wireless router and a lamp. after staring in that direction for awhile i was convinced nothing was wrong and my eyes returned to The Sims. and then, maybe ten seconds later, i sense some movement there and so i look up... AND I SEE A MOUSE!

oh. my god. a mouse?! in my room?! i was internally freaking the fuck out, but i didn't make a sound and just shifted in my bed. the mouse skittered back to the corner of the wall, and then jumped INTO that black speaker! right into the two holes in front of the speaker! you know how those big speakers always have two 'holes' in the front?? i don't even know what they are for, but this mouse jumped in there. and then it peeked out! so i'm sitting on my bed, completely frozen, and it is sitting inside the speaker and peeking out at me, completely frozen too. i didn't know what to do! how was i supposed to get it out of my room?? how do i get rid of it? what the hell was a mouse doing in my room to begin with??

it kept moving between one hole and the other from the inside, peeking out of a different hole each time. then i decided there was obviously NO other place for it to go than OUT of the speaker and IN to my room, and i did not want that! so i decided i had to get close enough to the speaker to block the holes somehow. my legs were semi-turning into jelly, but i pulled myself together, told myself it's just a dumb little mouse, and started looking around my room for something to block the speaker with. i had no choice but to block those holes in front of the speaker with one of my finance textbooks (like, placed upright against it) but for good measure i also grabbed my tennis racquet (with its cover on, of course) and slowly walked over there... i also put my sneakers on IN CASE it ran out of there because i did NOT want it touching my feet by accident! i tiptoed over, with my tennis racquet in one hand, the textbook in another, and my heart beating so fast. my eyes did not leave those holes for a SECOND, expecting to see it poke its nose out or something. but it stayed inside, probably because it could sense i was approaching.

SOMEHOW i got close enough to jam the textbook and the tennis racquet up against the speaker, and then i quickly grabbed the chair that was next to the speaker and jammed it against the speaker too. all of this was done in seconds before i lost my nerve, because i was so close to the damn mouse and was so nervous it would jump outta there before i locked it in! it worked out, and i had it blocked inside the speaker. it wasn't going anywhere. pheeewww!

i know it's JUST a mouse, but it still freaked me out. though i have to admit... when it was peeking out at me and i was staring at it, i thought it was maybe kinda... cute?! but no, don't get the wrong idea - i did NOT lock it in so i can keep it as a pet or something crazy like that. hah! i locked it in so i could get a proper night's sleep without worrying about it running around inside the apt.

this morning everything looked the same, so i'm assuming my 'prisoner' is still inside. hopefully not dead or anything. i didn't want to KILL it. i just wanted to lock it in there until ricardo (the super of the building, and the guy who rented this apt to me) could help do something about it! i called him this morning and told him the story. he said he'll go in today and take care of it. let's see what unfolded when i get home after work in a couple hours. *gulp*

not to sound like a complete wuss, but that apt will feel a LOT more comfortable once divya gets here and i'm not the only one living in there!
